JUNE

For as long as I can remember, June has meant the beginning of summer for me.  When I was a little girl, I think we got out of school by Memorial Day, and with my daughters, their last day of school was always toward the end of June. It is a happy time, a time of new beginnings and new possibilities. The whole summer is stretched before me, and with it, new adventures.  Picnics, parades, long days at the beach, catching lightning bugs, swimming lessons, vacations to old and new places, spreading a blanket out and reading stories,  tree forts,  sleeping in the playhouse in my back yard, long days of exploring and hiking in the woods behind my house, corn on the cob, snapping green beans, strawberries, tent camping at Cutler Lake, day trips to explore, these are just some of the memories that summer conjures up, and June is the beginning of summer.

With June comes the longest day of the year, the summer solstice, I have in the past 20 years or so, treated those few days towards the end of June as high holy days of the lunar calendar. Light takes on many meanings in my life.  Most certainly "light" means awareness and understanding.  This year, this morning, while praying and meditating, the following centering thought was offered:

"Every day brings me closer to the Light".

My prayer is that this is prophetic, that every day will bring me closer to the light that is within and without.
