Ithaca Revisited

Last year, I began the year writing my own version of  Constantine Peter Cavafy's poem entitled "Ithaca".  It occurred to me  that each year is a new journey inside of the hopefully long journey of my life and so I have composed a few verses in the same style for the year 2014:

Pray the Journey is long, full of many creative days
where you can move past the detritus of ego
out into the world of Love.

When with much pleasure and ease,
you reach ports where your light shines as bright as the sun
and your compassion for others knows no bounds.

Pray again for sunny days
filled with adventure, and new findings.
Visit also, some of the old ports
that brought you so much wonder and awe.

Keep Ithaca always in your mind.
Remember that you come from there
and remember who you  ultimately belong to.
But the journey isn't a hurried one.

When you reach Ithaka,
you become who you were meant to be all along,
wise, whole, full of the riches that sate
our deep longing for creativity and connection.
No longer expecting any place or any one
to make you wealthy and safe.

Ithaca offers this inspiration,
as you journey to find yourself.
Keep Ithaca always in your mind and heart.

"And Now let us welcome the New Year full of things that have never been."
                                                                                   -Rainer Maria Rilke
